Turn it up Dad!

Back when Real Rock music was made,I have some fantastic memories of riding in our old Mercury Marquis with all of us, Mom, Dad, my sisters and I With the FM Radio on......take yourself back in a rewind to 1977 and the release of Queens "News of the world" and two of the most recognizable rock anthems "We will Rock you" & "We are the champions", which I am most sure many of you have relished at high volume more than a few times in your life, I certainly have. These two songs mean something to me, as they were both part of a vivid moment & memory in my life....

Growing up in a Southern American Family in the conservative bible belt and being the son of a preacher man, you would have likely thought I would never have ever heard any of this type of music, but the great thing about my church goin' parents is that we kids were exposed to singing in a church congregation and somehow that seemed to open up ours and their ears and minds as well to all kinds of music. I'm from The Dougan Irish lineage, and one thing the Irish can do is sing! So let me tell you a short bit on that vivid memory of mine.

My parents had an old walnut console stereo with the turntable and am/fm dial and they had the coolest collection of albums at the time, everything from Herb Albert and his Tiajuana Brass band to Tom Jones, the Supremes and Bob Seeger to John Denver and that was cool in itself.....Then there was that radio dial and fm radio in those days was bustin at the seams. in 1977, One could pick up channels far and wide and on some exceptionally clear nights no matter where you were, you'd get some FM Album Rock Station from some major city in The U.S, just turn the dial.....

Dad had just moved our family to Missouri and I remember we'd be heading home from church and dad would be turning that dial to find something he liked. One Sunday night on the way home the dial hit KYYS 102.1 out of Kansas city, Missouri and that Soul stirring, foot stomping, heavy as the world intro to Queen's "We will Rock You" came on and I remember him saying, "Wow! now that's cool", myself age 12 and my sisters ages 13 and 9 were stomping our feet and clapping our hands and I remember us kids saying to Dad turn it up! and when he did I thought to myself, "Woah...Our Parents are cool ".....Wasn't so bad being a preachers kid after all.....

Now with that! I give you QUEEN! :
